Seven learning methods have been developed keeping in mind the unique learning capabilities. The focus of different styles is on the individual strengths of people that help them in the retention of information. The styles focus on either one of the five senses of a social aspect involved in the learning process.

The different learning techniques are popular because they have proven to improve learning efficiency. There are seven popular learning methods and they are:

Visual learners, also known as spatial learners, find it easy to retain information when delivered through images or pictures. These people respond well to mind maps and colors. The retention of information becomes easier for them when they have visual aids.

Kinaesthetic learners like to indulge in physical things. Activities like role-playing and items such as flashcards help them in learning in a better way. They find it easy to memorize things when done physically instead of relying only on theories.

Aural learners prefer to learn things by listening to them. They are brilliant listeners and can quickly retain information delivered in audio form. Once they hear something it stays in their mind and they have little trouble recalling it when needed.

Social or interpersonal learners learn best when participating in group study activities. They enjoy learning with other people and participating in quizzes. They thrive best when part of a study group.

Solitary learners find it easy to absorb information when they are alone. Study groups are not their thing. These learners study alone and remember things by making notes and reciting them repeatedly.

Verbal learners respond best to material that’s in written form or spoken words. They often use a tool such as acronyms and rhymes to memorize things in a better way.

Logical learners use structures to memorize things. They are also known as mathematical learners because they rely upon logic for effective learning. This method is most suitable for people interested in statistics and numbers.

The theory of different styles of learning says that it’s possible to categorize learners depending on their preference for the way of absorbing information. Many learners need to combine different methods to ensure effective learning.

To enjoy efficient learning, it’s crucial to first identify the most suitable learning method.

A person needs to take a look at their personality traits to figure out what is the best way for them to learn new things.

According to the Myers-Briggs personality indicator, there are 16 personality types. Each personality type is a combination of unique traits. Understanding the traits makes it easier to pick the most suitable learning method.  Our website offers reliable and quick personality tests that help you in finding more about yourself and use the valuable information to improve your learning process.

Here are the 16 personalities and their preferred learning approaches.

Learning techniques and personalities

Learning of ESTJ personalities is stimulated by questions. They look at the problem and ask if it can be solved or not. If they find the problem solvable, they thoroughly look for the best solutions as the possibility of finding the answer increases their interest in learning.

They are best at processing data that is presented in a logical framework. They find it easy to comprehend things when given straightforwardly. When things are presented factually, they can quickly grasp their meaning and absorb the information. The efficiency of their learning can be improved with the help of visual aids and active learning methods.

ESTJs have tolerance for stress related to high-level learning. They like to evenly distribute their efforts while learning something new but they do have the capacity to learn in a short time.

ESTPs effectively absorb information when presented factually. They are good at learning practical things even without any outside guidance.

ESTP personalities retain information in a better way when it comes to different examples. The examples assist them in reproducing the learned material accurately when needed.

ESTPs are not good at handling a high level of stress when it comes to learning. They can get overwhelmed when given too much to learn at a time.

ESFJ’s interest in learning increases when they find that it will help them in gaining new skill and putting it to good use. The material that has relevance to people and is presented simply is easy for them to remember.

They have the caliber of grasping material independently especially when it’s practical. Their learning is not affected by the fact that material is not presented logically or systematically.

Once they understand something they have no trouble applying it in practical life. They like to evenly distribute their learning efforts and have a high tolerance for stress related to learning.

ESFPs can learn things quickly and find ways to practically use their newfound knowledge. They enjoy getting feedback while learning. Their learning improves when done through active methods like educational games, debates, group work, etc. ESFPs possess a moderate tolerance for learning stress. They often leave their work till the last minute.

ISTJs are best grasping material that consists of practical information and has a logical flow. They have the caliber of memorizing a lot of facts and instructions. When they understand new information they can easily find practical usage for it.

They can learn things independently and do not benefit much from group studies. They are well-equipped to handle stress related to learning.

ISTPs are interested in learning practical things. They find it easy to understand things that come with real-life examples. They can assimilate new learning material independently and do not gain many advantages from group study.

ISTP individuals have an excellent eye for details and can accurately retain information. They often fail to evenly distribute their learning efforts and have a moderate tolerance for learning stress.

The material that is about practical knowledge and consists of a lot of examples is easy for them to comprehend. They don’t care much about the logical flow of the content. They can independently assimilate material and take in large amounts of data. They have no trouble reproducing data especially when it’s associated with some feeling.

ISFJs have a lot of precision in mechanical learning. They feel fulfilled by putting the things they have learned and understood to practical use. They are good at handling a high level of stress.

ISFP personalities are great at absorbing practical material especially when it’s given in simple terms along with real-life examples. They can independently assimilate information but it’s not the most effective method of learning for them.

ISFPs can easily understand things that lack logical flow. However, they like it when the delivery of information is done at a moderate pace. They find it easy to retain information that engages with their emotions and feelings. They find it hard to accurately retain information that needs understanding or deep reflection.

ENTJs receive information in the best way when it’s given to them in a theoretical manner. It allows them to comprehend it quickly and find ways to apply their newfound knowledge as well. They thrive in organized educational systems and can learn well from different formal learning processes.

ENTJs have the capacity for mechanical memorization. Their retention improves when the information they are getting is coming from a variety of perspectives and is filled with examples. They have the caliber of staying calm and collected in highly stressful learning situations.

ENTPs prefer conceptual material that has a logical flow as it’s easy for them to comprehend. They can look at new content from various perspectives and can independently learn new things. ENTPs are excellent at reproducing theoretical information even if it lacks logical flow.

ENTP individuals do not gain much from group studies. They can handle high stress while learning new things. They often fail to evenly distribute their learning efforts.

ENFJ people become efficient learners when the content is conceptually given to them. They can easily comprehend and retain information that has no logical connection. Learning becomes even easier if they can associate the new material with people.

They can successfully take in a large amount of data and retain it as well. Practically applying the things they have learned makes them happy. They can stay calm and stable even during highly stressful learning moments.

ENFP personalities can easily remember theoretical material especially when they are emotionally invested in learning. They are active communicators and prefer to learn in group activities. They like discussing the topics they are learning and getting feedback from others. Active learning ways like competitions, debates, etc. are helpful to them in learning.

Once they understand something they get excited about applying it. They have the caliber of applying their learning creatively and uniquely.

INTJ can memorize things and retain them for a long time. Repeating the things they learn solidifies their memorization even further. Their learning becomes better when different methods are used to present data along with examples.

Systematic and intensive learning techniques are most suitable for INTJs. The difficulty level of the information increases their desire to understand it.

INTPs like their learning material to be in conceptual form. They look for the theoretical basis to link the new information as it helps them remember it in a better way. Their learning does not improve with active learning methods.

They are great at absorbing new information and applying it to their work. It helps them develop further and increases their interest to learn even more.

INFJs find it easier to process information when it has relevance to people. They can easily comprehend material that lacks logical flow as well. Learning a theory and traffic rules is pretty similar for them.

INFJs can do mechanical memorization but the retention through it is less accurate than from things memorized through understanding. They are good at learning things independently.

INFPs tend to successfully retain theoretical information.  Their retention improves when they are emotionally invested in learning new material. They find it easy to comprehend things while learning independently and can do mechanical memorization.

Visual aids help improve INFP’s learning efficiency. Once they learn and understand something they can apply it in an obvious and straightforward manner.

Final Thoughts
